Voodoos hold off Crunch 2-1

POWASSAN, Ont. – A pair of second period tallies proved to be enough as the Powassan Voodoos held of the Cochrane Crunch 2-1 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

After a scoreless opening period, the Voodoos took flight early in the second stanza, getting goals from Chase MacQueen-Spence and Alex Little, with still over a half a game to play.

The initial marker came when MacQueen-Spence banged in a rebound off a Rodion Tatarenko blast from the high slot at 1:12.

Their next tally came just over five minutes later when Powassan advanced in numbers and saw Tatarenko picked up his second assist of session as he set-up Alex Little, who snapped a shot, blocker side from in close, on Crunch netminder Ben DiGiallonardo.

It stayed that way into the third period, where Cochrane got on the board as Jake Alton redirected a Benjamin Orgil shot from the left side while parked in front of Voodoos goalkeeper Alex Bugeja at 6:18.

However, Bugeja and his teammates held firm from there to secure the home ice victory.

Shots on net finished 40-14 in favour of Powassan with Bugeja getting the win while DiGiallonardo was solid in suffering the narrow defeat.
