TIMMINS, Ont. – A three-goal first period sent the Timmins Rock on their way to an eventual 6-1 win over the Cochrane Crunch Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.
Timmins began the scoring as they tallied first on the nightwhen Kaden McArthur came out from behind the net on a play and fired a shot that got by Cochrane netminder Jake Dubinsky and lay on the goal line where Hayden Rynard swooped into the crease and stuffed it in at 5:06.
McArthur then picked up his second point of the period as he steered in a diving pass in front courtesy of Evan Grigor.
Tacking on another before session was complete, the Rock’s Liam Wells tipped in a point shot from Kenyon Nyman, while parked between the hash marks, to make 3-0 after one.
In the second stanza, an early two-man advantage helped the Crunch get on the board when Michael Leetch cranked a one-timer from the right circle that flew by Timmins’s goaltender Patrick Boivin.
Getting that back on a delayed penalty, Lucas Lowe made a nice dash into the Cochrane zone and finished off a quick give-and-go with Nicholas Frederick by tipping one by Dubinsky.
Helping put the game away in the third, Brady Harroun picked up his team-leading 26th goal as he ripped one in from the high slot with help from a draw won by captain Nicolas Pigeon.
The assist for Pigeon now gives him points in 19 straight games.
Up a skater a few shifts later, the hosts secured the result with Lucas Piekarczyk deftly deflecting in a Nyman point shot with 5:45 to go in rounding out the night’s scoring.
The outcome saw Boivin register his NOJHL-leading 17th win of the season as the Rock improved to 26-5-3-2 while the Crunch fell to 6-29-1-1.
