Timmins ends Cochrane win streak at 10

TIMMINS, Ont. – Al Rogers stopped all 39 shots he faced while Nicholas Hautanen and Wayne Mathieu both tallied twice to help the Timmins Rock defeat the Cochrane Crunch 4-0 Tuesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

The game was scoreless until late in the second period when Rock defenceman Hautanen notched his seventh goal of the season at 19:45 of the middle frame.

Timmins added to their lead early in the third as Mathieu collected his 21st of the campaign to put the home side up by a pair.

Hautanen then struck again 40 seconds later to extend the Rock’s cushion.

Mathieu then finished things off in the late going with a shorthanded, empty net marker at 18:22 to conclude the night’s scoring.

Alexandre Brisson dished out two assist to aid the offensive cause for Timmins.

The shutout by Rogers was his first by him and his team in 2016-17 while Taylor Unruh faced 45 shots in defeat for the Crunch.

With the result the Rock snapped Cochrane’s impressive 10-game winning streak as they improved to 28-12-3-0 on the year while the Crunch slipped to 34-12-4-1.
