Thunderbirds slip to No. 2 in CJHL rankings
Crunch, Voodoos, Gold Miners also recognized again

SUDBURY – Despite a pair of convincing wins in both their starts last week, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Soo Thunderbirds have dropped one notch from atop the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Pointstreak Top 20 weekly rankings.

The latest rankings, which are compiled in conjunction with International Scouting Services, saw the Thunderbirds slip to No. 2 overall in favour of the Penticton Vees (BCHL).

Three other NOJHL clubs earned attention yet again in the weekly listings with the Cochrane Crunch coming in at No. 10 while the Powassan Voodoos were No. 14 and the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners earned honourable mention status.

Sault Ste. Marie continues to lead the NOJHL standings with an impressive 38-4-1-0 record and 77 points.

Their .895 winning percentage also leads the entire 131-team CJHL.

Cochrane maintains their lead in the NOJHL East standings with 72 points having gone 34-9-2-2 so far this season.

Powassan sits second behind the Crunch in the East with 68 points on a 32-8-3-1 mark.

As for the 2016 Dudley-Hewitt Cup host Gold Miners, they are just one point behind the Voodoos with 67 and an overall record of 32-10-2-1.

Following Penticton and the Thunderbirds in the CJHL rankings at No. 3 remains the defending RBC Cup champion Portage Terriers (MJHL).
