Serre supplies 2 as Blind River wins in Cochrane

COCHRANE, Ont. – Blind River Beavers captain Caleb Serre continued his impressive season by scoring twice, including collecting the game-winner, in leading his side to a 5-2 triumph over the Cochrane Crunch in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Tim Horton Events Centre.

Blind River was the first to score on the night as Milos Todorovic picked up his fourth of the campaign at 13:25.

Down a man late in the period, Cochrane got a shorthanded tally off the stick of Matthew Minichiello to knot the affair at 1-1 after one.

In the second stanza, the Beavers regained the lead four minutes in as recently acquired Kyle Quinn picked up his first with his new club.

Going to the power play, Blind River added to their cushion at 9:10 when the league’s leading point producer, Serre, notched his NOJHL-best 26th tally of the year.

The visitors then tacked on another before the session was complete on a David Campbell effort.

It was more Serre early in the third as his second of the night and 27th overall put Blind River up by four.

Drawing closer, the Crunch got one back at 4:08 thanks to Stephen Minichiello, but it turned out to be the night’s final tally.

The Beavers’ Quinn and Campbell also both chipped in with two assists apiece to give them three-point nights.

Shots on goal finished up 46-41 in favour of Cochrane.

Dominic Boily started for Blind River and earned the victory making 28 saves while Jackson Hjelle played the final 15:25 in relief and handled all 16 shots fired his way.

Cody Levesque started for Cochrane and suffered the loss, allowing four against on 34 attempts in two periods of work while Zach Wickson stopped six of seven in relief.
