Rayside-Balfour rolls to 6th consecutive victory

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians got two goals and an assist from Bradley Chenier helping them skate to their sixth consecutive victory, a 6-2 decision over the Cochrane Crunch Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Chelmsford Arena.

Chenier got the Canadians going by tallying twice before the contest was 10 minutes old to put the home side up by a pair while Kyle Fransen added to the cushion to make it 3-0 through one period of play.

Cochrane connected on the power play 35 seconds into the middle session thanks to Joseph Thielen, but Rayside-Balfour countered that with a Brett Whitehead man advantage effort at 5:42.

Danny Lepage added to the Canadians lead midway through the contest as they took a four-goal lead, which spelled the end of Crunch netminder Brett Young’s night in favour of Allan Menary.

Otis Goldman made it 6-1 a minute into the third before Cochrane’s Aviv Milner rounded out the scoring 16 seconds later.

Ryan Erickson dished out three assists for the Canadians while Cayse Ton and Joel Lemay dished out two helpers apiece in the triumph.

MacKenzie Savard finished with 40 saves in earning the win for Rayside-Balfour, who extended their win streak and improved to 10-1 in their past 11 outings.

Young allowed five against on 19 shots and suffered the loss for the Crunch with Menary stopping 11 of 12 in relief.
