COCHRANE, Ont. –  A Sunday Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee match-up at Tim Horton Events Centre saw the French River Rapids pull out a narrow 3-2 shootout decision over the Cochrane Crunch.

Cochrane was first to strike on the day as they broke out on a two-on-one where Ethan Ingram drove hard to the net where his attempt was stopped by French River netminder Hayden Williamson, but the rebound clipped off Jake Alton and slid across the goal line just over 13 minutes into the opening period.

Answering early in the second stanza, the Rapids drew level as Adam Boucher put a shot on net from the left point that was saved, but Chase Thompson was there to bang in the loose disk past Crunch starter Ben DiGiallonardo.

Regaining the lead 17 and a half minutes into the frame, Ingram bagged his sixth marker of the season as Cochrane forced a turnover that allowed him to get a good chance, then capitalize on another opportunity, that he slid in from the top of the crease.

Up a pair of skaters to begin the third period, French River tied it once more as Dominik Godin went upstairs 23 seconds from in close after taking a short pass from Levi Siau from behind the net.

It stayed even throughout the rest of regulation as well as the five-minute overtime to send it to extra shots.

There, Siau, Godin and Cooper Bowman all converted for French River to give them the second point in the contest.

Ryan Matthews collected the lone goal for Cochrane in their three shootout chances.

The Rapids also held the edge in shots on net, by a 43-24 margin with Williamson getting the win while DiGiallonardo helping the hosts pick up a point in defeat.
