NOJHL names  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Michael Silveri of the Powassan Voodoos, Drake Pilon of the Soo Thunderbirds and Seamus Maguire of the Cochrane Crunch have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Oct. 4.

MICHAEL SILVERI, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Taking to the ice twice last week, the 18-year-old North Bay product produced six points helping No. 3 CJHL ranked Powassan remain unbeaten, as they improved to 7-0 on the season.

He began by doling out three assists, including one on game-winner, as the Voodoos handed visiting Cochrane their first loss of the campaign last Monday.

Hitting the road Friday, Silveri scored once and helped set-up two more as his club skated to victory at Espanola.

He has also recorded points in all seven games Powassan has played to date and is riding a 12-game point streak dating back to last season picking up four tallies and 17 assists in that span.

DRAKE PILON, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In a pair of contests vs. the rival Soo Eagles over the weekend, the rookie forward helped put the Thunderbirds in flight as they earned a sweep of the home-and-home set.

Among Pilon’s efforts were three goals, which included a game-winner Saturday. He was also a fraction of a second away from picking up the difference maker in the first contest as well.

He also had an assist in Friday’s win.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product now has seven points in his first year in the NOJHL helping the T-Birds start with a 9-1 record.

SEAMUS MAGUIRE, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – In three games during the week that was 19-year-old Victoria, B.C. native continued to put up big offensive numbers for the Crunch with a trio of multi-point nights.

Maguire began with a goal and an assist in a road setback against unbeaten Powassan Sept. 28.

Friday evening at home he notched a pair of power play markers and picked up a helper as Cochrane handled Blind River.

Maguire then capped off an eight-point week with a goal and two assists in an away triumph against Rayside-Balfour.

He currently sits second in NOJHL scoring with 23 points, including seven of nine games where he has registered two or more points helping Cochrane post an 8-1 record in the league standings.
