NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Logan Fredericks of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, defenceman Matthew Murray of the Blind River Beavers and Cochrane Crunch goaltender Brett Young have been  named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending Feb. 28.

LOGAN FREDERICKS, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In two games over the weekend, the 20-year-old Millstone Township, N.J. native amassed eight points helping the Gold Miners skate to a pair home ice victories.

Fredericks began tallying twice and setting up two others Saturday as Kirkland Lake defeated Rayside-Balfour.

He followed that up by notching a hat trick and adding an assist as the Gold Miners topped Iroquois Falls.

Fredericks currently sits seventh in NOJHL scoring with 74 points. His 45 goals are the second most in the league.

MATTHEW MURRAY, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – The 18-year-old Thessalon, Ont. product picked up five points helping Blind River remain in playoff contention.

He started off with an assist in a late, last-minute loss vs. the Soo Eagles on Friday.

Then facing a must-win situation Sunday against French River, Murray dished out a career-high four helpers as the Beavers earned a triumph vs. the Rapids.

The six goals and 10 assists he has secured in 43 games in 2015-16 with both Blind River and the Soo Thunderbirds are single season-bests for the blueliner.

BRETT YOUNG, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Battling with Powassan for top spot in the NOJHL East, Young posted back-to-back wins for the Crunch last week.

The 20-year-old from Livonia, Mich., started with a 33-save performance as Cochrane edged Timmins on the road Wednesday.

Friday night saw Young add another 23 stops in a Crunch decision over Rayside-Balfour.

On the season the Cochrane netminder leads all NOJHL goalkeepers in victories with 25.
