NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltender Tyler Mazzocato and forward Brayden Stortz of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners along with Cochrane Crunch centre Hunter Atchison have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending Nov. 22.

TYLER MAZZOCATO, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – The first-year NOJHL netminder continued his impressive rookie campaign by helping backstop his hometown Gold Miners to a pair of victories.

Mazzocato began by turning aside 27 of 28 shots fired his way in a victory over Timmins on Friday night.

Sunday evening the 17-year-old stopper only allowed a pair of third period markers in a triumph over Iroquois Falls in a start where he finished with 24 saves along the way.

On the season Mazzocato is a perfect 8-0-0-0 to begin his Jr. A career and sits second overall in the league in goals-against average at 1.96 and third in save percentage at .924.

BRAYDEN STORTZ, (F) – KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Stortz continued his team-leading offensive numbers for Kirkland Lake over the weekend as he added five more points to his Gold Miners-leading total of 44.

The 19-year-old from Welland, Ont., dished out three assists in Friday’s win vs. the Timmins Rock then notched the game-winner and set-up another as Kirkland Lake defeated Iroquois Falls Sunday.

On the season Stortz is tied for fourth in league scoring with 17 goals and 27 assists to his credit as he ranks in the top 10 in the NOJHL in both categories.

He has also only been held off the scoresheet three times in his first 24 games this season.

HUNTER ATCHISON, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The NOJHL’s leading pointing producer added six more to his totals over the weekend as the Crunch went 2-0-0-1 in three road games.

The 19-year-old from Victoria, B.C., tallied twice in a double overtime draw at Elliot Lake Friday, scored once and set-up two more in a triumph at Blind River Saturday and finished things off by assisting on the game-winner at Iroquois Falls Sunday afternoon.

On the season, Atchison leads the lead in goals, assists, points, power play goals and shorthanded markers with 28, 33, 61, 10 and six respectively.
