Karnick shines in Cochrane debut in OT win over Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Haiden Karnick scored twice, including the game-winner late in the first overtime in his debut with the Cochrane Crunch, to help them pull out a 4-3 victory over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at Centennial Arena.

After a scoreless opening period each side would tally twice in the second stanza with Leejay Meguinis and Austin Stauffer connecting for Cochrane while Ryan Magee and Jacob Kelly countered for the Wildcats.

Acquired by the Crunch earlier in the week from the Blind River Beavers, Karnick put the visitors in front at 16:05 of the third only to see Elliot Lake rally late with the equalizer and force OT as Brett Crook levelled the proceedings with 55 seconds left in regulation.

Moving on to extra time it was Cochrane that prevailed as Brandon McReynolds set-up Karnick for a second time as he notched the difference maker to give his side the additional point that was up for grabs.

Leighton Williams made 32 saves to register the win for the Crunch.

Matt Kostiw helped the Wildcats earn a point as he finished with 44 stops along the way in the OT setback.
