Iroquois Falls drops Cochrane 7-2

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Iroquois Falls Eskis jumped out to an early three-goal lead and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Cochrane Crunch 7-2 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

A pair of Blake Holowaty power play markers put the Eskis in front while Wade Auger had one at even strength at 14:56 to put the hosts up by the three after one.

Cochrane replaced starter Jacob Burhans with Leighton Williams to begin the second stanza, but he was greeted with a Dillan Bruce man advantage effort 69 seconds into the session.

Austin Whelan got one back for the Crunch at 7:32, while his side was up a man, but Iroquois Falls answered that later in the frame on Shadow Reuben’s 19th of the season.

Braeden Cross hit the 27-goal plateau for Cochrane early in the third only to see Josh Dejulio and Jacob Herrberg, who recorded his first NOJHL tally, round out the scoring as he picked up the Eskis’ fourth extra man effort of the evening.

Reuben also supplied three assists for a four-point night.

Artem Bortovskiy made 54 saves to record the win while Burhans stopped seven of 10 to suffer the loss.

Williams made 19 stops in relief.
