Cochrane trio lead Crunch past Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got two points apiece from Braeden Cross, Darian Harris and Justin Hess to help lead them to a 4-1 victory over the French River Rapids Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Noelville Arena.

Special teams allowed Cochrane to collect the lone tally of the opening frame as Cross connected on the power play with assists from Harris and Hess at 6:38.

The trio then put the visitors up 2-0 just past the seven-minute mark of the middle stanza with Hess doing the scoring.

The Crunch then went up by three nine minutes later on an Austin Whelan effort.

Up a man early in the third, French River got on the board compliments of Kornel Szabo’s first NOJHL goal at 4:10 with Brayden Crowe and Alex Goettlicher supplying helpers.

Cochrane however rounded out the scoring with a power play marker of their own, with 4:28 to go, on Konnar Dechaine’s 22nd marker of the season.

Jacob Burhans made 16 saves to record the win for the Crunch while Korlan Vader faced 43 shots in defeat for the Rapids.
