Crunch starts season with various activities

The summer season is quickly coming to an end and now thoughts turn to hockey. The Cochrane Crunch team is already planning and preparing for what they hope will be a great season.

The season began with local tryouts on Aug. 22 with a team BBQ welcoming players and billet families.

Aug. 23 -26, the Cochrane Crunch will be hosting their summer hockey camp. Players and coaches will be on the ice teaching and getting Cochrane Minor Hockey (CMH) players for upcoming season. Camp was free to all CMH players.

During the week Aug. 22-25 the Crunch held their training camp with the public invited to come out and watch.

Friday, Aug. 26, a new Crunch town sign will be erected. CGV Builders and Y&S sponsoring the new Crunch sign. CGV Builders will be installing the sign that Y&S designed and were production sponsors. The unveiling will be at 7:30am. – 8am.

On Saturday Aug.27th there will be a Crunch Team Event with a friendly game of baseball at Tim Horton Centre Baseball Field from 11am-1pm.

Also on Aug. 27th there is a ticket drive sales.

The season begins with an exhibition game on Sunday Aug 28 at the Tim Horton Events Centre vs Timmins Rock @ 2pm. – Free admission.

On Sept.1 single tickets go on sale.

Other exhibition games scheduled are scheduled on Sept, 2 and 3. On Sept. 2 the Crunch will face the Hearst Lumberjacks in Hearst at 7pm. On Sep 3rd they will be at the Tim Horton Events Centre with the puck dropping at 4pm – Free admission.

NOJHL Note:

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Saturday, the game schedule for its upcoming Showcase, which goes October 4-5 at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.

The two-day event will feature all 12 NOJHL member clubs with all dozen match-ups counting towards the regular season standings.

The Showcase will feature six games per day, with four contests being played on Ice 2 at Countryside and two more held on Ice 1, which is an Olympic-sized ice surface.

All the clubs will serve as the home side for one game and the visitors for another.
