Crunch netminder Young commits to Northland College of NCHA

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that goaltender Brett Young has committed to play NCAA hockey next season on scholarship at Northland College in Ashland, Wis.

The 20-year Livonia, Mich., product will be joining the Lumberjacks program that competes in the 10-school Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Through 37 appearances so far this season, Young currently leads all NOJHL netminders in wins with 22 having posted a 22-9-0-2 record for the Crunch in 2015-16.

The six-foot-four-inch, 200-pound goalkeeper also sports a 3.35 goals-against average along with a .909 save percentage and one shutout while playing the most minutes of any netminder at 2,111 to date.

His victory total is already 10 more than he had with Cochrane last season.

Young will be joining a Northland program that currently boasts three Crunch and six NOJHL alumni on their roster including fellow goaltender A.J. Smith (Elliot Lake), defencemen Max Glashauser (Cochrane) and Kyle Salmon (Elliot Lake) along with forwards Henry Berger (Cochrane), Josh Racek (Cochrane) and Tim Perks (Blind River).
