Cochrane’s Herbster named CJHL’s 3rd Star for February

CALGARY, Alta. (Friday, March 9, 2018) – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Friday that forward Logan Schatz (Humboldt Broncos, SJHL); defenceman Kyle Auger (Thunder Bay North Stars, SIJHL) and forward Kyle Herbster (Cochrane Crunch, NOJHL) have been named its Gongshow Gear 3 Stars of the Month for February.

1ST STAR: LOGAN SCHATZ, (F) HUMBOLDT BRONCOS (SJHL) – Suiting up in nine contests in February, the 20-year-old from Allan Sask., racked up multiple-point nights in eight of them by notching five goals and supplying 15 assists. … Heading into the final night of the SJHL’s regular season, Schatz sits second in league offensive production with 85 points through 57 games on 22 tallies and 63 assists. … He has also etched his name on the scoresheet in 47 of those contests, including 24 multi-point match-ups.

2ND STAR: KYLE AUGER, (D) THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS (SIJHL) – Taking to the ice 11 times for surging Thunder Bay, the 19-year-old blueliner amassed 18 points along the way on nine goals and as many assists helping his hometown side go 8-1-1-1 during the month. … Three of his markers were game-winners from the point and he was selected the SIJHL’s most recent CCM Hockey Performer of the Month. … Sporting a six-game point streak, Auger has produced at over a point-per-game pace with the North Stars since joining the club back in early January, picking up 31 in 22 outings on a dozen tallies and 18 helpers along the way. … He presently tops all SIJHL defencemen in game-winning markers with five, which ties him for third overall in his league.

3RD STAR: KYLE HERBSTER, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH (NOHL) – A solid month for the 19-year-old from Cary, Ill., saw him rack up 21 points in the time frame as he produced a half-dozen goals and 15 helpers. … This included one game-winner and seven multi-point contests for Cochrane. … Herbster also claimed the NOJHL scoring title with a career single-season high 86 points, including 36 tallies, in 55 games. … His eight shorthanded goals led all league skaters and he was also tabbed a NOJHL Second Team CCM Hockey All-Star at right wing.
