Beavers bounce Crunch

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Yianni Liarakos tallied twice and helped set-up another to lead the Blind River Beavers to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Cochrane Crunch Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Blind River Community Centre.

The Beavers were quick to take a bite out of the Crunch in this one as Zak Lambrecht connected for his 12th goal of the season just 45 seconds into the contest during an early two-man advantage.

Liarakos then supplied the eventual difference maker at 7:05 to put the home side up by two through 20 minutes with another power play marker.

Blind River then put an early end to Cochrane starter Leighton Williams’ night as Steven Khull notched his first of the season just 11 seconds into the second stanza as he was lifted in favour of Jacob Burhans, who went the rest of the way.

It stayed 3-0 Beavers until the first minute of the third when Brandon McReynolds picked up his 13th marker of the year for the Crunch.

Liarakos iced it late however as he finished things off at 18:14 with an empty netter to round out the scoring.

Myles Hektor made 30 saves to record the win for Blind River.

Williams was saddled with the loss giving up three on 13 attempts while Burhans handled all 21 shots he saw in relief.
