COCHRANE, Ont. – The Timmins Rock saw Tyler Schwindt tallied twice and dished out three assists as part of the one-sided 9-1 romp over the Cochrane Crunch in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Friday evening at Tim Horton Events Centre.
A 22-4 shot barrage in the opening 20 minutes helped the visiting Rock storm out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play.
Nicolas Pigeon began the outburst four minutes into thing as Harry Clark did some strong work along the boards and got it over to him, allowing Pigeon to spin in the left faceoff circle and fire a shot that eluded Cochrane netminder Michael Nickolau.
Timmins tacked on another at 6:37 that saw Tyler Gilberds pick-off an errant clearing attempt and snap in an attempt from the slot.
The guests kept it going and added one more before the frame was half complete as Cole Williamson collected his first NOJHL marker at 9:51.
Moving to the middle stanza, the Rock kept coming, striking twice more early to extend their cushion.
Schwindt picked up his second of the evening as he lifted a backhand high over Nickolau.
Then, Bodie Dundord let a shot go from the left point that clipped off the stick off a Cochrane defender and found its way into the back of the net.
Another Schwindt came later as he darted in on a partial break, outwaited the Crunch goaltender and snapped a chance over the outstretched pad to add to the onslaught.
Continuing to click offensively the Rock got their seventh of night at 10:22 thanks to Eric Moreau.
Potting one more early in the third, Tyler Patterson extended the rout before Clark clicked with 12 and a half minutes to play.
Cochrane would dash Timmins’ netminder Liam McCarthy’s shutout bid with 40 seconds remaining as Matteo Peca fired a feed in front that bounced off the skate of a Rock defender and slid into the open side to round out the night’s scoring as he notched his first league tally.
Patterson finished with a four-point outing to aid the Rock offensive cause while Clark and Gilberds had three apiece.
Shots on goal finished up 59-17 if favour of the victors with Gavin McCarthy getting the win while Nickolau playing two periods in defeat and Liam McCarthy entering in relief to begin the third.
The two teams meet again Sunday in a 3 p.m. start back at THEC with the contest also being streamed on HockeyTV.com.
