4-point day for McReynolds as Crunch gets past Eskis at Polar Bear Classic
COCHRANE, Ont. – Brandon McReynolds scored once and dished out three assists to help push the Cochrane Crunch past the Iroquois Falls Eskis 5-4 Friday in Game 3 of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Polar Bear Classic preseason tournament at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
Iroquois Falls stormed out to an early two-goal cushion before the contest was 10 minutes old on tallies by Dillan Bruce, on the power play, and David Osborne at even strength.
Cochrane got one back before the first period was complete thanks to Sean Emmerson at 15:37.
After Shadow Reuben restored the Eskis cushion early in the middle frame, the Crunch clicked for three consecutive markers to take a 4-3 lead into the third on efforts supplied by McReynolds, Emmerson and Darian Harris.
Grant Omyer tied it for the visitors with 13:16 remaining in regulation, but Taylor Armbruster notched the game-winner with three and a half minutes to go to give the home side the come from behind victory as he ripped in a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle.
Armbruster also dished out two assists for the Crunch.
Hunter Smith picked up the win in net for Cochrane while Trevor Hawkes and Artem Bortovskiy split time in goal for Iroquois Falls in defeat.
Three more contests are scheduled for the Polar Bear Classic Friday.
The Kingston Voyageurs (OJHL) take on the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at 12:30 p.m. followed by Kirkland Lake meeting the Iroquois Falls at 6 p.m. before the day concludes with the Espanola Express taking onthe Crunch at 8:30 p.m.
