NOJHL partners with local CMHA in their 2nd Annual Showcase event in Sudbury

SUDBURY, Ont. – Teams from across the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) will face-off in the 2nd Annual NOJHL Showcase Tournament in Greater Sudbury’s Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 10 and Wednesday, October 11.

The two-day showcase tournament features all 12 NOJHL teams, with each game counting towards the overall regular season standings.

The NOJHL Showcase Tournament is also a chance for the league to show its community support. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Sudbury/Manitoulin branch.

“Not only are we excited to bring all 12 NOJHL teams back to Sudbury for our 2nd Annual Showcase Tournament but we’re proud to support mental health in the area by donating all proceeds from our ticket sales to the CMHA,” said Robert Mazzuca, NOJHL Commissioner.

A strong supporter of overall player development, the NOJHL is entering its third season with CMHA’s Talk Today program, one of the most comprehensive mental health programs for amateur sports in Canada. Over the past two seasons 446 players, 14 coaches/managers, five billets/parents, and 18 office staff members have received safeTALK training. safeTALK is an accredited training program that teaches individuals how to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and to connect them with supports in their community.

“The leadership the NOJHL has shown in promoting mental health to the youth in our communities, on and off the ice, has gone a long way in reducing the stigma around mental health. We are very grateful for their donation to our branch and all of the work they have done,” said Marion Quigley, CEO, CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin.
