NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that  forwards Logan Fredericks of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, Dustin Cordeiro of the Cochrane Crunch and Jaren Bellini of the Soo Thunderbirds have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending April 3.

LOGAN FREDERICKS, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In three playoff outings last week the 20-year-old Millstone Township, N.J., native had goals and points in each of them.

Fredericks began by tallying twice; including notching the game-winner, in the Gold Miners series-ending 4-1 triumph over Powassan this past Tuesday.

Then is the division final opener at Cochrane Friday he scored twice more and dished out a pair of assists in a 5-2 victory.

He then finished off his week with a goal and an assist in Kirkland Lake’s 6-5 overtime setback vs. the Crunch Sunday.

DUSTIN CORDEIRO, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Celebrating his 21st birthday today, Cordeiro earns Eastlink TV 3 Stars honours for a second consecutive week.

The NOJHL’s leading point producer in the playoffs, with 14, added to his totals with another four in the first two contests of the East Division final against Kirkland Lake.

Cordeiro scored once in a Game 1 defeat then tacked on two more and set-up the game-winner in overtime as the Crunch evened their best-of-seven with the Gold Miners at a game apiece.

He’ll enter Game 3 Tuesday riding both a six-game goal and point streak having supplied a league-high 10 goals and four assists in that span.

JAREN BELLINI, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – After sharing the NOJHL-lead in game-winning goals during the course of the regular season with eight along with teammate Matthew Caruso and Bain Cunningham of Timmins, Bellini helped set-up his Caruso for the decider in overtime in the West Division series-opener against Elliot Lake Saturday night.

The 19-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product began the scoring in the series vs. the Wildcats by supplying a first period power play marker, then drew an assist on Caruso’s game-winner just past the six-minute of the first extra session.

Bellini has averaged a point-per-game for the defending NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion Thunderbirds so far this postseason with five in as many contests, including two tallies.
