Initial CJHL rankings of 2016 see 3 NOJHL clubs tabbed

SUDBURY – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced their initial Pointstreak top 20 rankings for 2016 Monday and three Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League clubs once again garnered recognition.

The NOJHL-leading Soo Thunderbirds were slotted second overall in the 131-team CJHL while the Cochrane Crunch came in ninth and the Powassan Voodoos 11th in the listings that are produced in conjunction with International Scouting Services.

Sault Ste. Marie reeled off their seventh consecutive victory and 30th overall in 2015-16 Saturday to raise their record to a league-best 30-3-0-0 as the defending NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion T-Birds remain one of the hottest teams in the entire CJHL.

Cochrane too got the 2016 portion of their schedule off to a good start with a win Saturday as they came away victorious and improved to 8-2 in their past 10 as well as 26-5-1-2 overall.

As for Powassan they take to the ice tonight at home vs. Rayside-Balfour at 7 p.m. as they look to improve on their 23-5-1-1 mark in their first contest of 2016.

The Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) remain the top club in the CJHL with the Penticton Vees (BCHL), Portage Terriers (MJHL) and the Fort Frances Lakers (SIJHL) joining the Thunderbirds in the top five in third, fourth and fifth respectively.
