High-scoring Crunch cool off Eskis

COCHRANE, Ont. – The high-octane offence of the Cochrane Crunch was evident once again Thursday evening as they rode the three-goal, one assist performance from Jon Marzec to help lead them to an 8-3 victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Upping their NOJHL-best tally total to 116 on the night, Cochrane grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Seamus Maguire and Evan Ackkerman.

Iroquois Falls got on back 69 seconds into the middle frame on Brett Ouderkirk’s 10th of the season, but Maguire added one for the Crunch at 3:05.

The Eskis struck shorthanded at 9:33 as Jacob Erwin also reached double digits in his goal count for the campaign, however Jeran Knorr picked up his 13th overall with a power play effort just over a minute later.

Cochrane added another pair before the session was complete off the sticks of Taylor Karr and Marzec to take a 6-2 cushion into the third.

In the final frame David Osborne converted during an Eskis’ power play a half minute in only to see Marzec score twice to finish off his hat trick and wrap things up offensively.

Joseph Thielen, Taylor Armbruster and Hunter Atchison each chipped in with two assists to aid the Crunch.

Shots on goal favoured Cochrane 38-36 with Brett Young picking up the victory while Josh Horner suffered the loss.
