Crunch sign Mooney

Exciting Announcement!

The Cochrane Crunch have been out trying to find a replacement on the Blue Line for aging out veteran and NOJHL MVP and Defenceman of the year Connor Lovie who is off to University of Waterloo in the fall. Well things seem to have fell into place as Coach Leonard has been out actively recruiting veteran players across the Country and into the US.

After a few phone calls a month ago trying to nail down a certain Elite 20 yr old Defencemen we got a message we were not expecting yesterday and today we inked our newest player and probably our biggest experienced signing to date in our franchise history. The Crunch want to welcome from Sudbury Ontario right handed defencemen Ryan Mooney.

Ryan reached out to us yesterday and said his Mom has given him permission to put University of hold for one more season because he wants to win a Championship and he felt he can do it here. Ask if I would have a call with him and his mom last night and today paper work is done and we are all excited!

Ryan is coming here with just under 2 years of Major Junior experience where he played regularly with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL. Mooney is no stranger to the NOJHL as he was a star defencemen even at 16 for the Sudbury Nickel Barons prior to the teams move now the Rayside Belfour Canadians as a 16 and 17 yr old and also represented Team NOJHL at the Central Junior A Championships. Ryan put 34 pts as a 16 year old defencemen in the NOJHL in 50 games and the following season had 23pts in 21 games and was picked up and signed by the QMJHL right after our NOJHL Showcase where he spent almost 2 seasons. Last season Ryan was the star defencemen in the GOJHL with the Niagara Falls Canucks where he put up 42 pts in 39 games as Defencemen. Ryan is well known to be an offensive defencemen with little fear as he is only 5’10 180lbs. He has excellent speed and is very smooth of his feet and handles the puck like no other we have seen up here in a very long time.

Cochrane is excited to have you Ryan and Welcome to Crunchtime!
