Crunch end Eagles home win streak at 8

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Cochrane Crunch trio of Konnar Dechaine, Braeden Cross and Brandon McReynolds combined for nine points on the night as they handed the Soo Eagles their first home loss in nine games by winning 6-3 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Pullar Stadium.

After a scoreless first period, an early power play allowed Sault Ste. Marie to take the lead as William Casey connected on the man advantage at 3:56 of the middle stanza.

Cochrane came back with a trio of tallies before the frame was complete however on efforts supplied by Isaac Tkachuk, Cross and Dechaine.

Dechaine then added to the Crunch cushion 1:45 into the third while McReynolds struck while the visitors were up a man at 4:25.

The Eagles pulled to within three, midway through the final frame, as Brendan Schultz connected on the power play.

Converting again with their third extra man effort in the game with eight minutes to go, Casey collected another for the Soo, but the Crunch countered just 11 seconds later on Colin Boudreau’s first NOJHL goal to round out the scoring.

Dechaine also chipped in with two assists for a four-point night to aid the winners cause.

Jacob Burhans was busy in the Cochrane net as he faced 52 shots in earning the victory.

Justyn Gillis meanwhile saw 33 attempts in defeat for the Eagles.
