Cross carries Crunch to OT triumph vs. Canadians

COCHRANE, Ont. – Braeden Cross’ second goal of the game, 1:35 into overtime, proved to be the difference as the Cochrane Crunch edged the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 4-3 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Each side would find the back of the net once in the first period with Connor Lovie putting the Crunch in front early before Ian Robbie countered on the power play for the Canadians at 13:41.

Action in the second stanza saw Cochrane notch two markers as Kyle Herbster and Cross connected late in the session.

Rayside-Balfour battled back in the third for force OT thanks to Noah Serre and Jorge Perez who both collected their first NOJHL markers.

In the extra session however it was the Crunch that prevailed on the Cross OT winner.

Defenceman Zack Anderson chipped in with two assists for Cochrane, including one on the difference maker.

Leighton Williams picked up the win for the Crunch making 30 saves.

Mackenzie Savard helped his side earn a point as he turned aside 43 of 47 attempts for the Canadians.
