Cochrane picks-up home win vs. league-leading Powassan

COCHRANE, Ont. – Kyle Herbster had a goal then set-up the eventual game-winner as the Cochrane Crunch went on to skate to a narrow 3-2 decision over the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Powassan Voodoos Thursday at Tim Horton Event Centre.

The Voodoos picked up the lone tally of the opening frame as defenceman Eric Nagy connected at 15:06.

Moving on to the middle session though, it was all Crunch, as they connected three times to take a 3-1 lead after two periods of play.

An early power play helped Cochrane tie it thanks to Herbster’s 31st goal of the season at 3:15.

Austin Whelan then put the home side up at 14:35 before Herbster set-up Levi Johnson with 19 seconds left in the session to put them up by two heading into the third.

Powassan did get one back late in the final frame prior to time expiring from Cade Herd at 19:53 to round out the night’s scoring.

Shayne Battler made 30 saves in picking up the win for Cochrane while Julian Galloway handled 31 of 34 in the loss for the first place Voodoos.
