Cochrane forward Shaver commits to NCAA D-III Northland College

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that forward Bailey Shaver has committed to attend Northland College in Ashland, Wis., and will skate for the Lumberjacks’ NCAA D-III men’s hockey program starting in the fall.

The 20-year-old Shaver, who hails from Marysville, Wash., saw action in 51 regular season contests for the Crunch in 2016-17 and registered 32 points.

In all, he notched 17 goals and helped set-up 15 others with four of those markers being game-winners, which tied him for third overall on the Cochrane roster.

Shaver also picked up a tally and an assist in five playoff outings this season.

“As our program continues to grow and develop, we have to continue to bring quality individuals into our locker room and Bailey is just that,” offered Northland head coach Seamus Gregory on the announcement of Shaver’s commitment.

“He comes from a fantastic family and has the work ethic and compete level in which we are looking for at this time,” added the Lumberjacks head coach.

“From day one of taking the reign’s here at Northland, our staff has targeted the NOJHL. It’s a fantastic league and every city we travel to, we feel at home,” stated Gregory.

“Coach Leonard and the Crunch have been very accommodating through the recruitment process with all of the young men we have brought here through his organization – being first class. Bailey gives us another option up front that we need to continue to push forward in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, we are excited for him to wear the orange and blue here in Ashland.”

The Lumberjacks are member of the 11-school Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Northland already boasts five former Cochrane alumni on their roster.

Defenceman Max Glashauser along with forwards Josh Racek and Henry Berger, just wrapped up their sophomore campaigns while goaltender Brett Young and D-man Brandon Workun concluded his freshman years at Northland.
