Blind River hands Cochrane 1st regulation loss

COCHRANE, Ont. – Myles Hektor stopped all 39 shots he faced to post his second consecutive shutout, backstopping the Blind River Beavers to a 2-0 triumph over the Cochrane Crunch Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

The loss was Cochrane’s first in regulation time this season as the NOJHL overall leaders fell to 11-1-1-1 while Blind River improved to 7-7-0-0 on the campaign.

A quick start sent the Beavers on their way as Yianni Liarakos supplied the only goal his side would need on this night as he notched the eventual game-winner and his fifth tally of the campaign 97 seconds into the contest.

Liarakos then helped set-up another for Blind River on the power play as he and Cole Peck drew assists on Jordan Kreller’s second of the season at 16:56.

Peck also had a helper on the game-winning goal.

Hektor took over from there as he stymied the high-scoring Crunch the remainder of the game as he recorded back-to-back shutouts for the Beavers.

Leighton Williams suffered the loss for the Crunch stopping 26 of the 28 attempts fired his way.
